This is what we do on our farm. Please understand that this is an informational page only so that you can better understand what we do and why. All our vaccines were under the directions of our vet.
CD&T Vaccine
We have reviewed many methods of vaccinating or not to vaccinate as well as which vaccines to use and the side effects. We choose to use the CD&T vaccination for our annual vaccine. There are many companies that make this product. CD&T provide’s cheap insurance against diseases that commonly affect goats.
CD&T is probably, the only universally recommended vaccine for goats. CD&T toxoid provides three-way protection against enterotoxemia (overeating disease) caused by Clostridium perfringins types C and D and tetanus (lockjaw) caused by Clostridium tetani. Enterotoxemia type C, also called hemorrhagic enteritis or "bloody scours," mostly affects lambs and kids during their first few weeks of life, causing a bloody infection of the small intestine. It is often related to indigestion and is predisposed by a change in feed, such as beginning creep feeding or a sudden increase in milk supply.
Method
We vaccinated does 4 weeks prior to birth to give passive immunity to kids through the colostrum. Kids receive their first CD&T vaccination when they are 4 weeks old, followed by a booster 3 to 4 weeks later.
If at any time we feel that the does did not give passive immunity to the kids we keep CD&T anti-toxin on hand. Anti-toxins can provide immediate short-term immunity if in the event of disease outbreak or vaccine failure.
All doses of this vaccine are on the label as 2cc per animal- no matter the size or age.
Refrigeration needed.

Pneumonia Vaccination
We started in 2009 using the MANNHEIMIA HAEMOLYTICA-PASTEURELLA MULTOCIDA BACTERIN by Colorado Serum to protect against the nasty pneumonia that was going around the area. This pasteurella pneumonia killed many of our friend’s goats in 2009. This bacteria floats through the air so we were all susceptible. It is a quick killer with no warning and no antibiotic quick enough to help. To help protect our herd we vaccinated everyone. It’s relatively inexpensive, little to no side effects, available to use through mail order so we decided to vaccinate.
MANNHEIMIA HAEMOLYTICA-PASTEURELLA MULTOCIDA BACTERIN by Colorado Serum
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Inject 2ml subcutaneously. Administer two doses, 2 to 4 weeks apart. Animals vaccinated when less than 3 months old should be revaccinated at weaning or at 4 to 6 months of age.
Refrigeration needed.
